Whether it’s a car to an office, a car to a store, nearby, or even a sofa to a kitchen, we walk almost every day. When walking, we usually don’t consider its effect on the foot, and most people don’t consider putting orthopedic insoles in our shoes because the insoles that come with the shoes are “just fine.” However, what you may not know is that these insoles are usually flat soles, not designed for cushioning or support, and may begin to wear out in the first few weeks after use!
Whether you’re part of your daily activities, walking for fun or exercise, or starting to experience foot pain, consider using a walking insole to keep your feet supported and comfortable throughout the day. Walking insoles will provide you with proper arch support, soles, cushioning and shock absorption, and may also help treat and prevent some of the most common foot disorders.
The Impact that Walking has on our Feet
Walking is almost part of everyone’s daily work, and even walking from a car to a store and back can put pressure on your feet. Over time, this stress will begin to affect our feet and may cause some very common foot diseases.
Plantar fasciitis is the most common heel pain that prevents us from doing what we like to do. Plantar fasciitis usually manifests as severe pain near the heel. This is caused by repeated injury to the plantar fascia tendon, usually due to excessive or repeated stress on the arch of the foot, which causes swelling and pain in the tendon and foot. For this situation, the best treatment is to always maintain proper foot support to reduce excessive pressure on the foot.
The other two common foot disorders are “excessive internal rotation,” in which the feet and ankles roll in because the arch is not properly supported; and “pronation,” in which the feet and ankles roll outward, eventually walking on the outside of the foot .
Both of these conditions are common in many adults and occur only because the feet do not have the proper support needed to keep them aligned. A walking insole with arch support will help support the foot and keep it aligned with each step, thus preventing the foot and ankle from over-rolling in either direction.
How Walking Insoles Can Help Your Feet
When your foot has a proper foundation, you will be able to start walking more and more and not have to worry so much about fatigue. Walking insoles have the features you need to prevent common pain symptoms and foot discomfort while walking.
Walking insoles feature a moderate amount of cushioning throughout the body of the insole to alleviate pressure on the foot while standing and to help absorb the shock that your feet and legs receive as you take each step. Additionally, many walking insoles also have shock-absorbing pads at the heel and forefoot of the insole, typically made of gel or a gel-like material, which absorbs a greater amount of impact shock at the two areas of the foot that make the most contact with the ground: the heel, and the ball-of-foot.
Finally, walking insoles typically feature a deep heel cup that will cradle the heel of your foot. This heel cup will help provide ankle stability and, when combined with an arch support, will help excessive foot and ankle rolling (over-pronation and supination). This will also relieve pressure on the heel of the foot, which can be a contributing factor of foot fatigue.
