How to cut insoles

There are different varieties of insoles. They can be made from fabric, leather, foam, gel or moldable materials. When you buy an insole to install it in a new shoe or replace an old insole, the cut insole comes second. Regardless of what drives you to buy them, make sure they are trimmed to fit the footsteps of your shoes. It also means that you buy insoles that are larger than your size.

For removable insoles

This is the easy part of trimming the insole. Because the insole provided with the shoe can be used as a template for drawing outlines.

First, remove the insole you want to replace. Use a marker to place the newer insoles at the bottom, the template at the top, and follow the shape that matches the edges. Using a pair of scissors or a utility knife, cut to the marked path until you get the size you want. Perform the above steps for other insoles.

After obtaining the appropriate size related to the size of the foot, insert the insole into the shoe with the toe portion entering first. Push the insole to the corner of the shoe. Your insole may need to be positioned correctly inside the shoe with your thumb, applying pressure to the visible part of the insole until it is properly seated. Do the same for the other.

Adapting to a new insole may require several steps. If you use them for running, don’t wear them until you feel your feet finally get used to your shoes.

For adhesive insoles:

You may need to do this if you have tried everything to try and glue the insole to your shoe. This is the tricky part when cutting the insole, because it can be done multiple times before the insole is adapted to the footsteps of the shoe. There are two ways to do this: use a piece of paper internally or externally.

The steps are not completely different from the detachable insole. The only difference is that you will insert a larger piece of paper in the shoe. The shape of the paper is the shape you want to trace on the paper and then trace it back to the insole you purchased.

Due to the paper, it is similar to the “internal” method, but the location will be different. Place a large piece of paper on the floor, and then place it on your shoes. With a marker, you can realistically draw the outline of your shoes on paper. Cut the shape outline and use it as a template.
